Bio3 Research Patent Granting in Mexico

Bio3 Research S.r.l., MilanItaly, has recently been granted from the Mexican Patent Office the patent No. PA/a/2003/008364 which claims the use of HMGB1 (High Mobility Group Box 1) inhibitors and antagonists, such as antibodies, antibodies fragments, HMGB1 fragments, inhibitors in general, for the treatment of vascular diseases comprising atherosclerotic-plaque progression and/or restenosis.

The captioned patent covers also the use of HMGB1 protein in Connective Tissue Regeneration.

The granted Mexican patent strengthens Bio3 Research patent portfolio in the HMGB1 field.

Further to Mexico, patents have now been granted in the USA, Europe, Australia, Italy and are pending (very final phase) in Canada, Japan and China.

Bio3 Research has recently been granted from USPTO the US patent # 10/471,641 which claims the use of HMGB1 (High Mobility Group Box 1) inhibitors and antagonists, such as Abs and four way DNA, for the treatment of Cardiovascular Disorders (e.g. Restenosis and Arterial Stenosis).

October 9, 2009:
Bio3 Research Inc. (Hayward/CA/USA), a fully owned subsidiary of Bio3 Research s.r.l. (Milano/Italy) is pleased to announce the beginning of the in house production of HMGB1 protein from E.Coli (>95% pure) for the use of the protein in preclinical development programs.

Further to a collaboration with The Scripps Institute (La Jolla/CA/USA) via Bio3 Research Inc. partner Protelica, Bio3 Research Inc. has also started the production of HMGB1 protein from green source.

(Hayward, CA, USA) have published, at the conference Beyond Antibodies (San Diego September 21-23 , 2009) a poster regarding the development activities performed in the field of Mimic Abs anti-HMGB1 (second generation antibodies). April 2, 2009:
Bio3 Research S.r.l. (Milano – Italy), is pleased to announce the positive preclinical studies outcome (conducted by the CRO Bio-Quant Inc. La Jolla/CA) obtained with HMGB1 in wound healing in mice and pigs (Vehicle and PDGF as control) which confirms the protein high potential in tissue remodelling. HMGB1 project has demonstrated in-vitro and in-vivo the dual ability of the protein to accelerate the wound healing process and to control the remodelling of collagen and fibroblasts.

Bio3 Research has also tested in animals (rabbits) HMGB1 for its use in cartilage repair with encouraging results.

June 12, 2008:

Bio3 Research S.r.l. (Milano – Italy), is pleased to announce the official opening of a Californian subsidiary, located in Hayward.

The opening of Bio3 Research Inc., will enable the company to expand its activities in one of the most dynamic cluster, Silicon Valley, synonym of technology and innovation, which represents the ideal place for biomedical firms specialized in the areas of R&D in the life sciences and biopharmaceuticals, with the common purpose of improving the quality of human health and life.

Bio3 Research with the presence of a Californian subsidiary will also strengthen its strategic collaboration with two Californian based companies, Protelix Inc. and SynGen Inc., for the development of SiRNA HMGB1 specific and Mimic antibodies against HMGB1 in cardiovascular disorder related to HMGB1.

Other alliances will be worked out to develop HMGB1 in connective tissues regeneration.

A presence in the USA will also enable Bio3 Research to develop its proprietary compound Biocysan (cysteine) in the prevention of severe anemia in hemodialysed patients.

May 30, 2007:

The British Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has authorized Creabilis Therapeutics, Italy, to carry out Phase I Clinical Trial in the UK for CT327 (Pegylated K252A) for the topical treatment of Psoriasis .The proprietary compound is under development at Creabilis Therapeutics S.p.A laboratories (Italy).

Creabilis Therapeutics has granted Bio3 Research s.r.l exclusive worldwide business development rights for CT327 licensing out.

Bio3 Research has filed a patent application, in co-ownership with Prof. Marco Bianchi, Group Leader, Chromatin Dynamics Unit, San Raffaele Scientific Institute (Milan - Italy), in Italy under the title "HMGB1 protein inhibitors and/or antagonists inhibiting the pathogenesis and progression of the Atherosclerotic disease".



December 17, 2004: Bio3 Research PCT filing in the field of End-Stage Renal Disease.


Bio3 Research has filed a patent application under the PCT claiming the use of a specific amino acid to decrease anemia in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients.

August 2, 2004: Bio3 Research - Creabilis Therapeutics Licensing agreement in the field of Vascular Disorders and Restenosis

Bio3 Research has entered into a Cross-License agreement with Creabilis Therapeutics, an Italian drug discovery and development company by granting Creabilis Therapeutics exclusive rights to develop and exploit Bio3 Research four way DNA as HMGB1 antagonist in the cardiovascular area. In turn Bio3 Research has obtained from Creabilis Therapeutics, an exclusive worldwide license of certain products, such as short duplex bent DNA, bent PNA, DNA/PNA hybrids, DNA/PNA chimeras (coded CT400 series), under development by Creabilis Therapeutics in the cardiovascular field under Creabilis Therapeutics patent "Therapeutic agents for the treatment of HMGB1-related pathologies".


August 2, 2004: Bio3 Research - Creabilis Therapeutics joint patent filing in the field of Restenosis (CT301/R)

Bio3 Research and Creabilis Therapeutics have jointly filed a patent application for the use of the compound coded CT301/R in restenosis. CT301/R, a small liposoluble molecule, has a potent indirect inhibiting effect on HMGB1, resulting in anti-proliferative and anti-migration effects on BASMC and BAEC cells. Bio3 Research has worldwide exclusive licensing-out rights.



August 2, Bio3 Research - Creabilis Therapeutics agreement for the promotion of a compound (coded CT301/P) under development at Creabilis Therapeutics for the topical treatment of Psoriasis

Bio3 Research and Creabilis Therapeutics have entered into a strategic alliance for the promotion and licensing-out of CT301/P, a compound under development for the topical treatment of psoriasis. Under this agreement, Bio3 Research will assist Creabilis Therapeutics in strategic marketing, business development and licensing-out activities.



May 14, 2004: Worldwide license of the polymer free Drug Eluting Stent Endostent from the Swiss company Endosense.

Endosense, a Swiss medical device company engaged in the development of devices for the treatment of vascular disorders, has granted Bio3 Research a worldwide semi-exclusive license for their proprietary polymer free drug-eluting stent Endostent.



February 3, 2004: Bio3 Research patent application filing in the field of Restenosis

Bio3 Research has filed an Italian priority application for a patent under the title "HMGB1 Antagonists and Inhibitors to prevent Endothelial and SMC proliferation". This patent is the result of a collaboration established with Prof. Marco Bianchi, Group Leader, Chromatin Dynamics Unit, San Raffaele Scientific Institute (Milan - Italy), internationally renowned in the field of HMGB1.



September 15, 2003: Bio3 Research Nationalization Phases undertaken for the PCT WO 02/074337 in the field of Restenosis

Bio3 Research has undertaken the nationalization phase in USA, EU, JP, Canada, Australia, China for the patent application "HMGB1 protein inhibitors and/or antagonists for the treatment of vascular diseases".



July 22, 2003: Termination of the agreement between Bio3 Research and Lay Line Genomics (LLG).

Bio3 Research announces the termination of its agreement with Lay Line Genomics. Under the collaboration established in the year 2001 Bio3 Research helped LLG to enter into service and non-exclusive license contracts with leading pharmaceutical companies for the use of LLG's transgenic anti-NGF mouse AD11.
